About Repiqued Interests
Repiqued Interests is my website. It's just me here.
I am just some guy. You might be able to infer some things based on the content I have on this site. But to help you out, I'll hit you with a few sweet hotfacts.
Hotfacts
I live in Sussex, England.
I'm interested in 'traditional' card games, which is a term I'm not too interested in definining. Other people have written much better things about that than I'm likely ever to.
I'm interested in other kinds of games, too, particularly abstract strategy games (and adjacent), although I tend to be especially terrible at these.
I design games as a loose hobby, and have a few written down here, which I will slowly add to. As such I also like to bang on about things related to game design.
Beyond games I also like, amongst other things:
- Music
- Cricket
- Local history / culture
- Baking
- Cryptic crosswords
- Data stuff
- Software design
You may occasionally find these kind of topics cropping up around the place. I would say 'should I have anything interesting to say', but I think you'll find a careful perusal of a few pages here will quickly convince you that I do not consider that to be too much of a barrier.
Well gosh malosh, haven't I just waffled on there. If you have anything else you want to know about me, please do feel free to drop me a line. You'll probably be astounded to hear that I don't have a huge volume of mail, so don't worry about adding to it.
Middle name
I'd have to double-check my passport to be certain about my middle name, but if you believe what you hear on the streets it's probably one of:
- Speculation
- Information
Questions
FAQs
(frequently asked questions)
Nöone really asks me questions, so the concept of frequently hasn't really shimmered into relevance yet.
LFAQs
(less frequently asked questions)
Even 'less frequently' is tough to nail down, for now.
AQs
(asked questions)
Okay fine, I'll admit it. Noöne has asked me any questions yet.
So hey — there's some low-hanging fruit for getting your enquiry up on this page. Ask away!
UQs
(unasked questions)
I guess I'll have to pick up the slack for now then, and take a stab at guessing the kind of questions people would ask. What's your favourite card game?
This is never a fixed thing, so represents what feels right whenever I last updated this section.
Pure games-wise I would probably play Doppelkopf above anything else. I also love Skat, Cointrée, and Bridge.
Some other top favourites are Bezique (six-pack), Koenigrufen, Hungarian Tarokk, Tysiacha, Schnapsen, Klaberjass, and Coiffeur.
I've got a soft spot for Calypso despite its flaws, which is probably why I'm often fiddling about with variants.
I'm always happy to play a game that I have invented, but they don't really count.
What other games do you like?
Erm, that's a bit too broad a question. I feel paralysed with the possibilities.
Would you like to play cards?
Yeah, probably! Particularly if it's one of the games listed above.
What do you use to make your fabulous website?
Sheer pluck, and more time than you would probably think from looking at it.
Where can I get hold of some Repiqued Interests merchandise?
Unfortunately supply issues have meant that I have temporarily had to close down the Repiqued Interests merchandise shop.
I have a few items remaining in stock, which are not worth the effort of posting. I shall continue attempting to sell these off at local car boot sales, so do keep your eyes as peeled as possible. I'm sure that I will get lucky one of these days.
These are:
- 4 XXXL mugs
- 30 of the newer design egg-slicer
- Most of a box (~40 copies or so) of 'The Repiqued Interests Guide to Running a Successful Website'
- A single hand-knitted doorbell-camera cosy
- 20-ish copies of 'RI Sings Calypso Classics' (on minidisc)
- A handful of my custom 'Dream Drawings' from orders that were returned
Until it gets back up and running I can recommend buying a label-maker so that you can slap the phrase 'repiqued interests' in charming monospace typeface onto your treasured posessions, as a stop-gap.
Will you please sign my T-shirt?
Sure! Just ask me if you see me — you'll need to provide the pen.
Alternatively, leave it in a park somewhere in Sussex. When I see it I'll give it a quick little sign, and then you can pick it up at your leisure.
What is your favourite animal?
Camels. Historically it was squirrels. Big shout out to others close to my heart: flittermice, havilers.
